About Permanent Makeup

Looking to wake up each day with your makeup already done? Tired of filling your brows or applying lipstick daily? You might want to consider permanent makeup.
Permanent cosmetic makeup is cosmetic tattooing. The specialized techniques used for permanent cosmetics are often referred to as “micropigmentation”, “microshading” or “microblading”. Cosmetic tattooing has come a long way, incorporating artistry and skill to provide clients with more natural enhancements to their appearance.
The process includes a consultation, the application of pigment, and at least one or more follow-up visits for evaluating the healed design work and color of the pigment.

Permanent Cosmetic procedures can be very subtle or dramatic depending on what you are looking for. Options at Fourth N Main include:

  • Eyebrows
  • Lip Blushing
  • Areola (Coming Soon)
  • Scalp Micropigmentation (Coming Soon)

Samantha, our Permanent Makeup Artist, is SPCP (Society of Permanent Cosmetics Professionals) trained and AAM Certified (American Academy of Micropigmentation) in Permanent Makeup. She will meet with you during the consultation and explain the process in detail, as well as answer any questions you may have.

Are Permanent Cosmetics Really Permanent?

Permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because pigment is tattooed into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo or colorant (pigment) in general, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic maintenance referred to as color re-enhancement or color refreshing.

How Long Does Each Procedure Take?

A typical PMU procedure can take up to 3 hours. A consultation separate from the day of procedure is required for this service. During your consultation, we recommend bringing photos of what you like/don’t like, we will discuss pre and post care, manage expectations, map out the brows (if consulting for brows), discuss design and color preferences, and go over any paperwork necessary prior to the procedure appointment.

Is It Painful?

Patients may experience some mild discomfort, however this is dependent on the patient’s pain tolerance and threshold. We do use topical anesthetics to make these services more comfortable. Most patients find that this service is very tolerable!

Are There Any Side Effects During or After the Procedure?

Light to moderate swelling to the treatment area can be expected depending on the level of work done to the specific area.

Will I need a touch up?

Yes- after your initial service you will return for a touch up between 1 and 3 months of your initial treatment. After your touch up, you should not need another touch up sooner than 2-4 years.
