About IPL Photofacials

Many people begin to notice that their skin tone becomes more uneven with age. There are many factors that contribute to an uneven skin tone. Primarily, unprotected exposure to the sun causes unwanted pigment in the skin that usually is described as brown spots, freckles, or sun spots. Most people will find that their uneven skin tone is not just on their face, but also on their hands and chests. Likewise, others experience problems with their skin tone such as small vessels around the nose or cheeks (spider veins, broken vessels), red spots, or even rosacea. These nuisances can be corrected through skin revitalization, also known as a “photofacial.” The photofacial is an ideal choice to address unwanted pigmentation on the face, hands, and chest. Our IPL has a Vasculaze handpiece. Many people find that after a few treatment sessions, the skin tone begins to be more uniform and even.

Our certified IPL technicians at Fourth N Main in Asbury Park are excited to help you with your journey to achieve a more clear and even skin tone. By scheduling a complimentary consultation for an IPL treatment, you could be one step closer to your revitalized skin tone.

How IPL works

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology removes unwanted pigmentation by utilizing different light wavelengths with special filters to target unwanted browns and reds that reside in the skin. At Fourth N Main in Asbury Park, the Lumecca by InMode will be used to help patients reduce the appearance of unwanted brown spots, age spots, sun damage, broken vessels, and even rosacea. This technology leaves the surrounding healthy tissue undamaged and unaffected. This is because IPL technology will only identify pigmentation that is brown or red. Once the laser targets a specific pigment, it begins to break down and the body begins to naturally flush the pigment out. Brown spots will start to rise to the surface of the skin until the pigment flakes off, and red spots or vessels will dim with a continued clearance over time.

What to expect during the treatment

After an initial consultation with one of the certified IPL technicians at Fourth N Main in Asbury Park, you will be cleared to begin the Photofacial treatment using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). All patients will wear eye shields throughout the duration of the procedure, and the providers wear eye protection goggles as well. At the start of the treatment, a cool gel is applied that creates a barrier between the laser handpiece and the skin. When the IPL is being conducted, patients can expect to feel a warm rubber band snap sensation when the energy is being delivered to the skin. Immediately after, the skin may feel warm across the treated areas. Upon completing the laser portion, the gel is removed. You may experience mild sunburn-like symptoms for a few days after the treatment, but you can resume your normal day-to-day activities following the treatment, with the exception of unprotected sun exposure.

If you are interested in a Photofacial, please be aware of the following: Remove all make-up and lotions prior to the treatment, at least 4 weeks before the appointment, discontinue unprotected sun exposure, tanning beds, and tanning creams on the areas receiving treatments, and 1 week before the appointment, discontinue the use of retinol products on the areas receiving treatments.

How Does Diolazexl Work?

During laser treatment, a diode laser beam passes through the skin towards hair follicles. The penetrating energy then heats up the root of the hair, which in turn prevents future hair growth.

What Steps Must Be Taken Before The Procedure?

Avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING AND AFTER LUMECCA?

During treatment there will be a bright flash of light from Lumecca, and a sensation on your skin that feels like a light snap from an elastic band. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subside within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of pigmented spots; in the week afterwards, the pigmented lesions flake off, leading to an evening out of skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, you may see the vein blanch and disappear or a color change in the vessel which dissipates after a few days.

How Many Sessions Are Recommended?

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session. Multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regime depends on the severity of skin damage, skin type, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings.

How Quickly Will I See Results?

Sun damage and skin complexion results can be seen a few days after the first session. The skin will continue to look younger and more brilliant over time with most visible results after 1-2 weeks. Having multiple photofacial sessions will improve the final result. For vascular treatments such as facial telangiectasias, results can be seen in up to 2 weeks.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Most patients do not experience any side effects and any skin reaction usually resolves within a few hours. Patients may find they are sensitive to sunlight immediately after treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
